The USS Requin is a real submarine located just outside of Carnegie Science Center and is patiently waiting for you to tour her! General Admission to the Science Center covers this awesome attraction…Dede K的完整评论

This would be a neat experience for younger generations. It's a quick troll inside that barely gives you time to read, but the experience of what a submarine was/is like is worth it. PILO1926的完整评论

Is it possible for the son of a sailor who served on the Requin to get a private tour with a guide?
答:
Hi there, you can give the Requin a call at 412-237-1535, they might be able to work something out!

Does self-directed tour mean we could linger throughout the Requin with no time limit? I served aboard the SS416 USS Tiru which has been decommissioned July1975, used for torpedo practice and sunk July1979. It launched 16SEP1947 as a Balao class, completed as GUPPY II then upgraded to GUPPY III in 1959. Thank you in advance, hub0316

Yes, you can stay as long as you like. Go by sometime when it’s not too crowded so that you can admire the ship with minimal distractions.

I am gong to Pittsburgh on Oct 12 - 14. I specifically want to see the USS Requin, as the kind of centerpiece of my visit. I see that the science museum is closed during the week ( can't find the reason why) but am hoping that the sub is open for tours. I cannot specifically see any info on the sub itself. Does anybody know? If the worst case scenario bears out and I can't visit the sub, is a walk by interesting enough and a good photo op? And is there parking handy? I will be staying at the William Penn, are there any good activities that can be enjoyed on those days? Sorry - lots of Qs.

The center is closed "for renovations related to the new PPG Science Pavilion", according to the website. It should be open on your last day, the 14th, though. You can walk by and see the sub fine from the walking path without needing museum admission. The most interesting views (in my own opinion) are the work and living spaces within the sub, though, so I'd check out the Science Center on Saturday the 14th if I were you. I think it will open at 10.

What is the cost to get in?
答:
It's free with admission to the Science Center. I am not sure you can buy admission to *only* the USS Requin.

Where is the best place to park if you are planning to visit the USS Requin, but not the museum?

I parked on a street a couple streets away and walked around the area and found the Requin. You'll have to pay for parking since there's never free parking in Pittsburgh anywhere. Stay away from parking garages since they charge about $20/day. You'll basically just have to drive around until you find an open spot.
