As an experienced diver, I would highly recommend that you get some instruction for everyone wanting to snorkel before you go out into the ocean on a boat. This can be done in a pool prior to your trip. There is no point in doing this on an ocean that might have large swells and strong currents. Some form of practice is essential before you all go snorkeling. Basic snorkeling skills will make the whole experience safer and more enjoyable. I don't believe that there is an instructor in the water on the trip, but you could ask.
