Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a legal opinion Friday arguing state agencies should no longer follow court orders allowing transgender Texans to change their sex on a driver's license or birth certificate.

In a legal opinion issued Friday, Attorney General Ken Paxton ordered state agencies to "immediately correct" birth certificates or driver's licenses.

The Texas Department of Public Safety requested the opinion in September, about a month after it stopped accepting court orders to change gender markers on driver’s licenses. The Department of State Health Services also stopped allowing gender changes on birth certificates unless the hospital made an error.
