All removed appendices were analyzed pathologically and the patients were classified as being positive (acute appendicitis) or negative (normal appendix histology) appendectomy recipients.

When cancer develops in the appendix, it usually mimics appendicitis and in most cases, patients are diagnosed with appendicular cancer after appendicectomy surgery on the pathology specimen.
