FARGO, N.D. — Cass County commissioners approved the final step to address long-term overcrowding at the county jail on Tuesday, Jan. 21, paving the way for inmate transfers to Clay County.

The suspect is being held at the Cass County Jail. His name is currently being withheld pending his arraignment in court.

The Cass County Jail will open a new 192-bed addition in the spring. However, the jail is at capacity and on Tuesday, officials will ask Clay County in Minnesota to board up to 10 prisoners.

While Cass County Jail holds inmates from Carroll County, Howard County and the Indiana Department of Corrections alongside local inmates, it was at 61% capacity in December.
