A wet pattern will bring periods of rain and showers to Southern California, dropping an inch or two in the Los Angeles region — the most to fall since mid-April. It will be key for firefighters continuing to battle flames.

A weekend storm in Los Angeles helped tamp down the most damaging wildfires in California history, but it also brought flooding and mudslides that have shut down highways and schools and left emergency vehicles stuck in the mud.

The first significant storm of the season brought snow and downpours to Southern California that doused wildfires and caused some ash and mud to flow across streets in the Los Angeles area on Monday.
