The American crow is the “default” crow across most of North America. It overlaps broadly with the common raven, and to a lesser extent with the Chihuahuan raven, fish crow, and northwestern crow.
However, in North America, the following can help different them: The Common Raven often soars and will turn somersaults in flight, while the American Crow rarely soars and never flips over in flight.
