He starred in Sacred Games and Tanhaji also. He was honoured with Padma Shri in 2010. He is also the recipient of National Film Award and Filmfare Award. He is married to Kareena Kapoor.

Malinda Seneviratne Chandika Gunasekara titled his first solo exhibition ‘Malini’. That was the name he gave his second solo exhibition as well. Malini, he said, is the name of his late grandmother.
