2012年4月19日 · The floor of the stall I am converting to a chicken coop is rubber horse mat over sand. This seemed a terrific system to keep, easy cleaning and all. However a friend thinks I should take the mats up because the chicken manure will ruin them.

If you have an outside run with stay and a small plastic pool (sand) for bathing and litter in the nesting boxes. I think the floor would be soft, warm and easy to keep clean and dry.

2016年7月22日 · The "floor" of the coop is just 2X4 beams with hardware cloth. I bought several horse stall mats and cut them into 3 large strips and laid them over the floor. I deep clean the coop twice a year and it is a snap. I take out all of the straw, then I lug out the mats, take them outside and hose them down. It is so easy and not very messy.

We put thick horse stall mats down on top of the dirt floor of our hen house, with wood chips and straw for bedding. Hardware cloth is best protection, so I would use it on top of stall also, if your plan is to cover it.

I bought a plastic grabber thingie from the Grange that was supposed to grip them to allow you to move them.....that was money wasted. The blasted things are so heavy and unwieldy!

2020年8月28日 · The horse mat is easier to clean because it has no texture. I just "wipe" the poop into a pile with a dustpan every evening and use some straw to sweep it into the dustpan. Since the area above the mats is covered and my pekin needed to stay dry all last winter and spring our vet had us keep her in our house or in the barn or on those mats.
