Galvanized Steel (Zinc Plated Steel) vs Stainless Steel
Fabricating a structure from plated raw materials may damage the plating layer and reduce the corrosion resistance (e.g. assembly using bolts and screws, bending plated sheet metal, etc). Welding plated steel requires special precautions to make good quality joints and to protect the operator from fumes containing zinc compounds.
materials - Galvanic compatibility with mild steel - Engineering …
2020年7月18日 · $\begingroup$ Fasteners will be plated because hot dipping can be a problem with threads , Hot dip and plated are both galvanized or zinc coated . Electro-plate can put thinner but the manufacturer should be specifying some minimum thickness ( g/sq m).
Can Zinc/Aluminum coated anchor rods be used in concrete?
Since the project is outdoors, a corrosion protection coating is required. The only coatings that can be used are Zinc/Aluminum coatings such as ASTM F 1136 Grade 3. There is a history of aluminum not being used in contact with concrete because of corrosion concerns. This seems to be specifically with solid aluminum.
Alternatives to zinc die cast (Zamak) - Engineering Stack Exchange
2022年3月29日 · $\begingroup$ A more descriptive title would be " alternatives to zinc die cast". The zamaks' are basically zinc with a few pre-cent Al , and possible Cu, Pure zinc ( eg prime western) dissolves steel rapidly and the small alloy addition prevents the zinc from dissolving the steel injection dies.

Stainless steel comes in several qualities. AISI 303 (1.4305) (Stainless Steel A1) approximately 304 but more machinable due to sulfur. AISI 304 (1.4301) (Stainless Steel A2) comprises of 18% chromium and 8% nickel. AISI 316 (EN 1.4401) (Stainless Steel A4) is 16% chromium, 10% nickel and 2% molybdenum.
bolting - What method can I use to make a pivot point in an …
I used shoulder bolts with a nylon washer between the aluminum pieces to reduce friction, and standard zinc-plated steel washers on the exterior sides. The problem I encountered was tightening the bolt too much would result in too much friction, whereas too loose would result in one of the aluminum pieces coming slightly off the shoulder of the ...
Brazing Zinc-Aluminum Alloy to Steel - Engineering Stack Exchange
2016年9月15日 · $\begingroup$ The zinc-aluminum is almost certainly a thin coating on top of the underlying steel, and any sort of brazing operation will destroy it and its protective qualities. Perhaps you would be better off epoxying it into place. $\endgroup$
Is stainless steel plating possible? - Engineering Stack Exchange
2015年4月15日 · All forms of steel, whether they be ordinary iron and carbon alloy or stainless steel are made from a melt in furnaces. Because of this stainless steel cannot be plated to ordinary steel by chemical means either. Stainless steel can be welded to ordinary steel but a TIG welder is required, but this wouldn't suit your purposes.
structures - What kind of protection should I give structural steel …
The galvanized or zinc layer is there to provide extra time when the top layers fail. These types of systems typically use contrasting colors for each coating layer. This way any reduction of protection due to a missing layer is readily visible. Together this system can protect the steel structure for up to 50 years.
How do we specify among a shim, spacer, and washer?
2017年5月30日 · So you don't have "washers" or "spacers", you have parts like "4mm diameter disk with 2mm diameter hole, 0.5mm thick, steel, zinc plated". $\endgroup$ – alephzero Commented May 31, 2017 at 2:31
