However, when experimenting with a heat gun it is possible to turn an old barn coat into char cloth with very little effort.

2017年1月3日 · Canvas naturally swells when wet and will repel water unless you brush against it. Adding wax or oil will increase the fire hazard. Borax is sometimes mixed in with the waterproofing to help mitigate the threat from stray sparks ending in a fiery death.

2015年11月10日 · The amount of wax directly affects your stiffness and waterproofness, the linseed oil keeps the canvas from absorbing water, the pine tar keeps mold/mildew at bay, and the japan drier/turpentine thins the mixture and helps dry it faster. I prefer to add less wax and apply two coats allowing it to dry in the florida sun (kills your grass).

2013年9月16日 · I know at one time Thompson's was accepted to go on canvas, but I think lately this is not recommended. As a matter of fact, I have heard of it causing canvas deterioration. The labelling no longer says for canvas. For anything expensive, I would use CANVAK or similar.

2017年5月21日 · (yes to lanolin for wool generally, I will sometimes wax a wool felt hat though..) On the other hand, for all the fuss and bother the Greenland wax isn't that expensive and it's pretty much the same thing, I think I'll give it a try. Let you know how it goes.

2024年6月17日 · Obviously, if you use all oil (and some thinner, like white spirit or turps) it's making oilcloth, while if you use all wax, or mainly wax, it's waxing. A popular combination is wax to linseed oil in a 2:1 ratio (plus some thinner) - this combination gets classed as waxing, as though the oil is just there to 'soften the wax'.

2010年2月10日 · I have a 25 gallon drum about half full of parafin wax that i use for waxing traps. Ive used it to wax leather, denim, canvas, and regular nylon packs with good success. I use to put a small amount of pine pitch when i melted it to supposedly keep it from being brittle when dry but all ive added to the pot in 5 or 6 years was parrafin wax.
