McDonogh School was founded on November 21, 1873, when 21 poor boys from Baltimore City arrived on the 835-acre campus, approximately 15 miles northwest of Baltimore's harbor, where they would live, work, and learn.

Founded in 1873 as a farm school for poor boys, McDonogh School is situated on 800 pastoral acres in suburban Owings Mills. The campus is located 20 minutes from downtown Baltimore and 50 minutes from Washington, D.C.

McDonogh’s Medical Advisory Board is a group of volunteer physicians and specialists who advise the school on issues surrounding health and wellness. The Board, which also includes representatives from McDonogh's Infirmary and Athletic Training departments, meets quarterly.
