Satan is Called a Dragon. Satan is called a dragon in the book of Revelation. He is described in Revelation 12:3, 4, 7, 9, 13, 17; 13:1, 2, 4, 11; 16:13 and 20:2. Revelation 20:2 tells us the dragon is the devil or Satan. The dragon appears to symbolize power (Revelation 13:2) and again God conquers with power (Revelation 20:2).

The dragon and his angels waged war, and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. The second sign is a dragon in Revelation 12:3, Then another sign appeared in heaven: and behold, a great red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads were seven diadems. Revelation 12:3 (NASB) The third sign is a male child in Revelation 12:5-6. The fourth sign is Michael the archangel (Revelation 12:7-17).

“And the beast which I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were like those of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion, and the dragon gave him his power and his throne and great authority.” – Revelation 13:2. Verse 2 sounds just like the four beasts of Daniel 7. Remember the first beast was a winged lion.

Some have said the seven mountains represent Rome or the Roman Catholic Church because they say that Rome has seven mountains. But Rome has more than seven hills which implies that the seven hills cannot refer to Rome. The best meaning of the mountains is provided in Daniel 2:35, 44-45. The mountains were a common symbol for kingdoms or empires.

The first maneuver is given in verses 40-43. Here is verse 40, At the end time the king of the South will collide with him, and the king of the North will storm against him with chariots, with horsemen and with many ships; and he will enter countries, overflow them and pass through.
