Looking for porch solution w/no outer supports/posts
2021年1月27日 · One of my rear balconies has a 6' roof overhang without any supports. I didn't want a lot of structure, so the overhang is supported by two cantilever beams inside the exterior walls. The rafters in the overhang sit on these two beams. These need to go back a fair bit (I think it was around 10' inside the wall).
Ideal roof overhang length? - GreenBuildingAdvisor
2012年11月30日 · If the roof will be framed with trusses, a hip roof with a single ridge isn't really any more difficult to put together than a simple gable roof and you get the advantage of having the same overhang all the way around. The roof on the house I'm building is a "Dutch gable" - essentially a hip roof with gables that peek out at each end of the ...
Resource for Calculating Cantilever Joist Lengths
2023年5月3日 · In your case, with a 60 psf design load for the roof plus let's say a 30 psf design load for the loft, the total design load is about 90 psf. (We could parse it more finely if needed.) With 16" o.c. joists, a 1' overhang and a 10' wide roof, that's about 600 pounds pushing down on the end of each joist. That's for a static load.
Attaching cantilevered roof, roof overhang, PERSIST roof, and …
2021年5月3日 · I would like to shade the second floor windows somewhere near the middle of Summer Solstice and March Equionox, in Buena Vista, CO. I want to use about 3 feet of overhang (as this is the higher south facing roof) with, what seems to be typical 2×4 framing used in the PERSIST method, and 4″ of Roxul Toprock below the roofing substrate.
Max overhang of a 2×4 rafter tail - Green Building Advisor
2019年7月27日 · Gable trusses are only dropped over the area of the building, not the overhang. So the corner is supported by one 2"x4" located usually 2 to 4 ft in from the exterior wall, and the rough fascias, making for a weak spot you feel when you walk the roof. With a 3ft overhang that corner is going to be pretty soft.
Detailing Airtight Overhang Using Exterior Foam Insulation
2021年1月20日 · But as I finally get to the point of my design where I’m interested in the specifics of the roof overhang, I’ve got questions… I’m expecting 3 layers of 1.5″ foam (not sure which yet, though I’d like to just use some type of Rockwool product for the added noise benefits) insulation on the roof deck.
Overhang Length - GreenBuildingAdvisor
2023年6月16日 · It also looks like the existing roof is very short. Your cantilever length is governed both by the limit Michael cited, and the proportion of the framing that extends back to the wall. For practical and aesthetic reasons, I would go somewhere between 12" and 16".
Ventilating shed roof overhang - GreenBuildingAdvisor
2017年9月3日 · Hi, I'm building a home for a client in the PNW with a shed roof detail. The frame consists of GLB rafter beams, 2x6 car decking, 1/2" cdx, 2x6 on edge with sprayed foam to r 38, 5/8 cdx and standing seam metal roof. The pitch is 2.2/12 and the high end of the roof cantilevers 4' beyond the face of the building. That cantilever is non insulated and shows two continuous …
Large overhangs without thermal bridging - GreenBuildingAdvisor
2014年4月10日 · Hey everyone, I am designing a small commercial building for a client in Climate Zone 5A. The design calls for largish overhangs on the south facade, and I am playing around with some ideas on how to build these. Traditionally, the interior structure (in this case, timber frame) would bear on the interior, and the top chord of the truss or rafter tail would cantilever …
Where can I learn how to build very extended eaves?
2020年10月10日 · Both the foundation and roof connections need to be designed for significant uplift. You can do shorter cantilevers, typical one is 1/3 out 2/3 in. Your local code should have details on how to do this. A ball park for joist sizing is a cantilever is equivalent to 2x simple span. For example for a 4' cantilever you need joist that can support 8 ...
