Founded on March 16, 1839, Christ Church Cathedral was Houston’s first religious congregation and is the only one still worshiping on its original site from the days when Houston was the capital of the Republic of Texas. Its adventurous founders left the United States to build a new nation.

Since its founding in 1839, Christ Church has lived every day into its mission “to proclaim the love of Jesus Christ through word and deed to the parish, the diocese, and the downtown community” and through our livestream, to the world.

Christ Church Cathedral 1117 Texas Avenue Houston, TX 7002. Located at the corner of Texas Avenue and Fannin Street in Downtown Houston since the 1840s, Christ Church Cathedral was founded during the Republic of Texas and is one of of the oldest churches in the state.
