A particularly robust species, Fargesia nitida (Chinese Fountain Bamboo) is an elegant, evergreen, clump-forming bamboo with tall and slender, purple-flushed green canes strongly arching under the weight of the foliage.

It is extremely cold hardy, which, combined with its stunning appearance, make F. nitida among the most horticulturally important bamboo. We also offer Fargesia nitida ‘Nanping’, collected in the late 1990’s from the Sichuan province of China and not expected to flower any time soon.

Fargesia nitida, commonly named blue fountain bamboo, is a clumping bamboo native to Szechwan, China. Medium to small and very cold hardy, but not tolerant of very high summer temperatures. This species bloomed in the years 2002–2005, so is not expected to bloom again for another 120 years. [2]
