Established by the late Fess Parker in 1989, the multigenerational family owned and operated Fess Parker Winery has built a reputation for crafting exceptional Rhône and Burgundian wines from Santa Barbara County.

Established in 1989 and the 11th member to join the Vintners Association, the Fess Parker Winery has a long history in Santa Barbara Wine Country and is well known for its small-lot, vineyard-designated, and clonal selection Rhône and Burgundian varietals.

Still family owned, Fess Parker Winery now owns more than 1,500 acres of vineyards on the central coast. And the winery made an appearance in a memorable scene in the 2004 film, Sideways where actor Paul Giamatti (Miles) tries to drain the dump bucket after the host refuses to give him a full glass.

Made a deliberate detour here on the way to Pismo Beach on September 25th out of a strong nostalgia for Fess Parker, and a habitual desire to support family businesses. The beautiful grounds were encouraging, as were the “Fess-isms” posted on the outside wall.

I have been wine tasting for decades now, but yesterday at Fess Parker was by far my favorite experience! The setting is magnificent—right at the vineyard with mountain views—but what really made the experience special was our wine educator, Zak.

The Fess Parker tasting room offers a classic tasting, featuring food and wine pairings. The winery and tasting room are loosely designed after an Australian sheep station, featuring a stone fireplace, stone floors and wraparound verandas with picnic tables.
