It is false - you can have a device that do not support jumbo frames and it will work as it works to me – I have home gigabit network with a network printer and all work perfectly – switch simply chopping the jumbo frame into the chunks able to be accepted by the 100M network printer. We found our original docs used and it had conflicting settings in it as well. However, if you do as mentioned above use the FlexPod reference design it does state to use 9216 for your settings.
