Kondoa District is one of the seven districts of the Dodoma Region of Tanzania. It is bordered to the north by Manyara Region, and to the south by Chemba District. Its district capital is the town of Kondoa. According to the 2012 Tanzania National Census, the population of Kondoa District was 269,704. [1]

Kondoa is a town and administrative ward (called Kondoa Mjini or Kondoa Urban) in the Kondoa District of the Dodoma Region of Tanzania. Kondoa Town is the district capital of Kondoa District. The local government buildings were mostly built during the German colonization.

Kondoa, known for its ancient rock art, is the location of the well-known Kondoa Rock Art Sites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These astonishing scenes of human life, wildlife, and daily rituals are depicted in these prehistoric rock paintings, which date back thousands of years.

The Kondoa Rock-Art Sites or Kondoa Irangi Rock Paintings are a series of ancient paintings on rockshelter walls in central Tanzania. The Kondoa region was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2006 because of its impressive collection of rock art. [3] .

Kondoa District Council is estimated to have district per capital of 850,000/= by 2015 with an average of life expectance 53 years. Poverty is widespread, and there is a pronounced deterioration of basic services due to the decline of government budget in the rural areas.

Kondoa is located on The Great North Road - the legendary highway from Capetown to Cairo. Don't let that fool you! It is an incredibly bad road. It is the kind of road that eats cars. In the rainy season, it is impassable. In the dry season it is rutted, potholed, dusty, and all-around unpleasant.
