Merychippus? Horse tooth from Peace River, Fl
2020年4月23日 · I'm trying to ID this horse tooth from Peace River, Florida. Looks like a subhypsodont. My best guess is Merychippus, but please let me know what you think.

2020年1月13日 · The other tooth, as you seem to suspect, is far more interesting. It is what in the old days would have been placed in the genus Merychippus. Today most of the species formerly placed in Merychippus have either been placed as primitive species in other genera or have been assigned to newly named genera such as Acritohippus and Scaphohippus.

Tedford et al 2002, considered M. calimarius and M. Intermontanus to be the same species, an opinion I agree with base on my collection of horse fossil from the Bastrow fauna and Tonopah fauna.
