The Grand Canalscape is a 12-mile continuous, multi-use recreational trail system along the Grand Canal in Phoenix – providing a unique opportunity for people to safely walk, run or bike along a dedicated off-street pathway.

Map of the Arizona Canal Trail, a 25-mile long paved and unpaved trail system that crosses through the northern side of the Phoenix Metro area. The trail follows alongside the Arizona Canal through Glendale, Phoenix and Scottsdale.

The Arizona Canal has plenty of things to do including craft beer and a bat cave, and runs 39 miles from Scottsdale through Phoenix into Peoria.

Check out this map of canal trails throughout the Valley. Former traffic engineer for the City of Phoenix, Kerry Wilcoxon, says that the project sought to solve two major issues: pedestrian and bike crashes and the fragmentation of neighborhoods.

They usually mention using the canal paths as part of their route, but rarely offer any details. As a frequent visitor to the area, I had often wanted to find out what these trails were all about.
