2004年8月6日 · Split leather is OK for some garments that do not require strength or integrity. It might be OK for a saddle covering over another piece like a gel piece or foam under the leather. Split leather looks nice when it is new. It is fuzzy and soft. Unfortunatly, split leather eventually mats and gets a kind of dirty shiny look.

2004年8月5日 · all split leather is not the same. an earlier poster was correct, cowhide *is* thick. So thick, in fact, that there are several layers of epidermis (think of a sheet of plywood), most of which can be used in commercial tanning applications, but not all of which are close to being superior leather or suitable for higher quality leather goods.

The other option was to wait until Fedex started that original shipping method again. I opted for the TNT option since the split cost wasn't that much more. No in fairness, TNT's tracking totally sucked.

the red saddle in the photo is cut using your base Swallow template, the leather was soaked in water for about 30min then hand-shaped as the leather dried. No other input from any device apart from my hands was used for the shaping. And the vegetable-tanned leather is thicker than that specified as Brooks Professional leather.

Any Gyes saddle experience? - Bike Forums
2012年1月25日 · Hi, I'm building up a new bike for my wife and am also thinking about getting a new saddle for myself. I've been thinking leather and was planning on going with Brooks: a b67 for the wife (upright cruiser-style city bike) and a b17 Imperial or Swift for me (drop bar commuter bike with bars maybe 2 inches below saddle to replace a selle san marco regal).
My next project "restoration", faded Frejus road bike
2024年12月12日 · This will be shined up as best as I can, rust remediated and covered, I may do some paint patching but nothing major right now. I will be changing the chainset out for a cottered Magistroni with Frejus pantograph. Saddle will be replaced with something leather, possibly a Brooks, hopefully something Italian.
