The Norinco Type 62 (Chinese: 62式; pinyin: Liù'èr shì) is a Chinese light tank developed in the early 1960s, based on the Chinese Type 59 with a reduced main gun calibre, lighter armour and a smaller suite of electronics and other equipment to help reduce weight.

The first Chinese light tank developed by and for the People's Liberation Army was the Type 62. The Soviet T-54, locally produced with the help of USSR in a brand new factory on the north, not only gave birth to four main classes of main battle tanks but also countless derivatives.

The Chinese Type 62 Light Tank, is a scaled down version of the Chinese Type 59 Tank. By reducing its size, armour and main gun, the resulting Type 62 design was lighter, exerted a low ground pressure and provided an improved mobility allowing it to operate in the rugged/mountain terrains of China that heavier Chinese tanks couldnt get too.
