Proof of vector calculus identities - Mathematics Stack Exchange
$\begingroup$ @Erbil: unfortunately, what's happened is that ordinary vector calculus is simply inadequate for some things, particularly when you get outside of 3d (for instance, in relativity, as that reference describes). So, what you're doing is converting dot and cross products into expressions with indices and learning how to work with ...
Looking for a comprehensive reference for vector identities
Let's say that a vector identity is "usual," or "standard," if it can be found in the Wikipedia articles "Vector algebra relations" or "Vector calculus identities." I'm interested in (lesser-known) identities both with and without the nabla operator. Surprisingly, for example, Gradshteyn and Ryzhik list only very standard identities.
Vector Calculus Identities Using Differential Forms
Thanks to the over-dot notation you can work with $\partial$ as with vector so you can the vector triple product formula straight away. This can not be done with standard vector calculus notation. But you can use this identity: $$ G\times (\nabla \times F) = -(G\cdot \nabla)F - G\cdot \nabla F $$ together with identity $$ \nabla (F\cdot G) = F ...
Using index notation to prove vector identities
2024年1月25日 · Yes, you are on the right track. As already said in the comments, you can use the fact that $\epsilon_{lik}\delta_{kj}=\epsilon_{lij}$ and the product rule to get the desired result.
Where to learn vector calculus identities properly?
2023年9月6日 · The Wiki page for Vector Calculus Identities lists its formulae in terms of tensor calculus. Now tensor calculus might sound difficult, but for our purposes it basically gives more general versions for derivatives of higher-order objects (e.g. vector fields are 1-d objects while scalar fields are 0-d), and a product rule which combines these ...
