I believe that Vikhr missiles are overrated (explanation included)
2023年3月24日 · Vikhr excel shotting down other helicopters and slow jets (at low altitude); fast and maneuverable jets can evade the missile without too much effort. I don't really see an imbalance here, especially considering that most low altitude engagements (that happens at best at 6km) are decided by who spots the other first.

Compared to the Vikhr, Hellfires have different guidance methods with their own advantages. Laser-guided Hellfires can be launched using designation from other vehicles or infantry, allowing quicker acquisition of targets. The missile also doesn't require the launch platform to remain in line-of-sight after launch if fired this way.

It makes the most sense to me that APKWS is a missile system, with the defining difference being guided versus unguided. If a dumb bomb with a guidance package (ie: JDAM or Paveway) is referred to as a precision guided munition, then a rocket upgraded with a guidance package is surely a missile following the same logic.

2021年9月27日 · Honestly I think they removed Ataka-M's and nerfed Vikhr's to make way for a new Russian attack helicopters, probably the Mi-28NM that was datamined. Which is rather silly, because Russia already has tons of top tier helicopters, the tree would be better served through the addition of an Mi-8 without ATGM's , or perhaps an Mi-2.

So why when it's fired at a fast moving jet does it act like an anti air missile and lead the target?
