For my other lab domains I utilize either the PfSense box or a DNS server in that network. And for all non internal (or networks behind PfSense) I use either the firewall or external DNS servers.

Its not my definition. Pfsense is first a firewall. It does packet inspection and filtering. It just so happens to also be capable of routing. You can remove the routing abilities of pfsense and it will still be a firewall. You can remove the ability of packet inspection and still have it router. Its like a modem router combo.

2021年12月14日 · UniFi routers are okay when you only need a few firewall rules, VLAN’s & DHCP… It will work fine! But pfSense gives you so much more fine control! PfSense makes more complex setups quite easy while UniFi simply won’t work for many requirements. For example: DNS overwrites! PfSense just does that via the GUI… Or Policy based routing!
