if its someone like me who came after downloading only the vmdk file, then create a new vm by choosing I'll install OS later. Choose the OS whose vmdk you have downloaded. Choose "store virtual disk as a single file". When you are done replace the vmdk you downloaded with the one that is created. Start the vm. enjoy! –

2022年5月27日 · You may wish to SHRINK your VMDK file first in VMware. For Windows operating systems, shut down the machine and use the VM Men, Manage, and Cleanup Disks. For Linux machines, run the shrink command inside the running Linux machine: sudo vmware-toolbox-cmd disk shrink / Your dynamic VMDK file is made up of numerous small segments.

2014年4月22日 · VirtualBox has to mount a vmdk image as a writethrough disk, which means it loses things like snapshots and possibly driver performance. I don't know if this applies to the newest version, but it sounds like you should go with VDI.

The following command will convert the .vmdk from growable to preallocated : vmware-vdiskmanager -r current_disk_name.vmdk -t 3 new_disk_name.vmdk If you wish to change the size of the disk, this should be done while the disk is still in growable format (examples here). 2015年7月14日 · When I run 1023856-vmware-vdiskmanager-linux.7.0.1 -R on the corrupt VMDK file, it doesn't return anything, but when I run it on the non-corrupt ones, it returns, saying they are not corrupt. This utility didn't fix my corrupt VMDK. –

2019年8月11日 · It says "Unable to open file: '...\x.vmdk": The system cannot find the file specified." even though the file is clearly there as shown in the screenshot. Extra details: Windows 10 (both computers) Settings have not changed when I moved cloned virtual machine to the second computer. I have access to the first computer where I cloned it.

2019年8月21日 · VMDK is (also) an open-source format. You appear to have some problems importing the OVF file directly, but that’s not necessary! As you can see from looking at the file, it has human-readable descriptions on most elements. From this, we can recreate the VM manually and then attach the disk (VirtualBox supports the VMDK format).
