For a comfortable commuter bike, that Schwinn might not be a bad option if you're tall enough for it and you can get the seller to forego shipping/packaging charges. I wouldn't anticipate a bidding war for it, so it could be a lot cheaper than the Trek or Cannondale bikes you mentioned.

That bike is a solid deal at $250. It has good paint, a fine frame, and good parts. The only question is tire size. The OP might be better off with a bike that can take a little fatter tire and fenders. Hard to tell what size tires this bike can take from the pics but a 32c tire and fenders might be a stretch.

Pretty cool. But, that might be overkill for a commuter bike but it is an option. Being in Minne-flat-opolis a single speed was plenty for me for year but now I run a 1x8 Afline IGH year round on my commuter as my old knee joints prefer a few gear options.
