The very large battles I often do not provide a map for, or it may be a very simple drawing, relying on theater of the mind instead, small ones I often do have a map for, as exact placement tends to be more important; but even then, in both cases, I sometimes do it the other way around.

For example, if you have a fight in a cave, you can have large sections of the floor under thigh deep water.

2020年12月26日 · For the totally free, dead simple method we're using Google drawings paired with discord. Add a map and combatants, send the map to the back layer, the share the link with your players, enabling anyone with link to edit. If all you want to do is move around images on a map, that's all you really need.

2016年3月16日 · My group usually does combat on a grid but this last session I threw a bunch of cranked-out biker orcs at them and these guys were zipping around doing hit-and-runs so much that the mats just weren't big enough. Did it "theater of the mind" style and it worked well. I think it made for a more immersive combat and felt a lot less "board-gamey."
