Unfortunately I don't know what character code is used for soft returns: pasting shift-return into the source string doesn't work. I believe that the Unicode character x2028 is a line break.

The function in Word represented by that symbol is the "manual line break". I think the only place in the program where you'll see that name is on the Special popup in the Find and Replace dialog. Word has never used the "soft" and "hard" terminology, probably because WordPerfect did use it. (MS used to consider WP its mortal enemy.)

Line Break (Soft Return) Tab Issues Taking notes in class. After I create a line break (Shift+Enter) and insert a Tab on the new line, all the previous words on top indents as well.

2020年2月11日 · Years ago when you hit the enter key to make a new paragraph the line spacing was the same as a soft return in the middle of a paragraph. Now the only way to get that same spacing is to do a shift enter. How do I change this in the template.doc or equivalent so my default for every new document works like this used to? Thanks!
