Converting WPS (word processing system) file to Word
Nov 27, 2017 · Hi, the most reliable method for converting WPS files to word is to open them in Open Office, save them as .docx and then they will be MS Word Compatible. I know it is a pain to have ot install Open Office, but I have converted thousands of these documents over time and have found this to e the only reliable method

The *.wps format usually means a Microsoft Works file, which is the format of the older, now unsupported Microsoft Works word processor.

Mar 8, 2018 · In Word 2016 was able to open a Works 9 document I just created. So it is possible. Take a look in File menu > Options command > Trust Center option > Trust Center Settings ... button > File block settings option. Look in the open column. Remove check marks beside "legacy converters for Word" and "Word 2 and earlier binary documents".

Feb 23, 2017 · Thanks for offering your help. I ended up downloading the Microsoft 6-9 Converter and it solved the problem. I was using Word to open various document files: .wps, .doc, .abi. None of them opened in a readable form until I installed the converter. Now they all read fine.
