It took a while to find out what these intricate sand tubes were and who had made them. My best efforts seem to home in on the protective case of a Trumpet worm, Lagis korenl. A Trumpet worm is a type of bristle worm, with a pink, fleshy body and golden gills. The tiny sand grains are cemented together as a burrow to live in. The tube sticks 'pointy end up' from the sand with the worm filtering food from beneath. A tasty morsel for plaice and dabs apparently and very widespread around our coasts
