Nominal lumber (like 2x4 and 2x6) is not those actual measurements. It used to be “back in the day”! But now it’s smaller (either due to drying or planing or greedy-ness🤷🏻‍♀️). 2x4s are actually only 1.5” by 3.5” and 2x6s are 1.5” by 5.5”.
