Built in the 1830s, this North Carolina plantation was home to Irish immigrants, the Montgomery Family, who landed at Wilmington, NC and made their way up river to the land where they settled. This home was built in 1850 after a tragedy struck a North Carolina plantation. At a rural property called Roseland, nearly 20 people fell ill and died from a scourge they called "Black Tongue." Both enslaved people and members of the white family perished after they discovered that their well had become contaminated by manure.
