Indigenous groups used ceremonial wampum belts to represent their history, traditions and laws. Historically, peoples of the Northeastern Woodlands made wampum belts using purple and white quahog shell-beads arranged in intricate patterns. As symbols of peace, wampum belts also signified agreements between peoples. For the 2015 Native Immigrant event, Teiotiohkwenhahton Beadwork – Visions of Peace, the group created their own contemporary wampum after the Iroquois Circle Wampum. #indigenoustikto

The dresses have been displayed in a wide range of arts-and-culture venues, including galleries, in Quebec and in Chile. The first dress was exhibited at the iconic Rialto Hall in Montreal. In 2015, the “Visions of Peace” dress began at the Espace Culturel Ashukan in Old Montreal then grew in the hands of university students at the fine arts school UACh, Valdivia, Chile. Newen Ko cultural center in the mapuche community of Juan Andres Cheuque (near the city of Victoria) also exhibited the dress.
